Through our partnership with Pile Driving Solutions Inc., Imperial Crane Services, Inc. is able to present the only certified damper/isolator for the purpose of absorbing the vibration from a vibratory hammer and the damage that these hammers put on cranes. Pile Driving Solutions Inc. became the official distributor of the dampers. This product now allows the use of hydraulic cranes to be used for vibratory hammer work with little to no impact on the crane. It provides extended protection to all cranes from the vibration put out by the hammers.
The damper minimizes most vibration to the crane due to the vibration put out by vibratory hammers. It maximizes the safety of the crane work being done, provides little to no maintenance, minimal set up and a potential ten year life expectancy based on the number of hours it’s used.
The damper can be used on all model cranes. Manufacturers like Liebherr require that dampers or isolators be used when vibratory hammers are placed on LR model cranes.
Imperial Crane introduced their new product at the SC&RA (Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association) Annual Conference in Carlsbad, California. The damper on display was sold to a crane company that day after learning about the added benefits and cost saving opportunities to protect their crane. Since then, additional dampers have been sold all across the United States.
For over 45 years, Imperial Crane Services, Inc. has been committed to the manufacturing and heavy industries providing crane rentals on daily or long term lift projects.
Pile Driving Solutions Offers Vibratory Dampers for U.S. Crane Rental Market
April 22, 2015 - At the SC&RA Annual Conference, Imperial Crane presented Pile Driving Solutions Inc., which is the exclusive North American distributor of the German-made Tunkers vibratory dampers.
“Anytime a vibratory hammer is on a crane, the potential exists for parts to vibrate off the crane, which could create injury, damage to the crane, or shut the jobsite down,” said Jay Mooncotch, owner of Pile Driving Solutions. The Tunkers dampers are designed to take the shock of a vibratory hammer from the crane and the operator during pile-driving applications.
According to Mooncotch, manufacturers like Liebherr are requiring dampers or isolators to be used on certain crane models when the machine is fitted with a vibratory hammer. “The beauty of the damper is it can be used on all of your cranes,” Mooncotch said, such as crawlers, all-terrain, and rough-terrain cranes.
Tunkers dampers are available in several models, with the most common model being the SD130. With the right rigging, the vibratory damper can be hooked to the block in minutes, and it requires little maintenance. If taken care of properly, Mooncotch said the damper will last for years.
Since Pile Driving Solutions began distributing vibratory dampers, one of our customers has purchased three dampers: two SD130s and an SD180 for a bridge in New York, and American Bridge also bought an SD130 for a bridge job in Dallas, Texas.
Mooncotch said the damper has created a new market for Imperial Crane’s rental company. “We are now able to rent out hydraulic rough-terrain and all-terrain cranes for the use of vibratory work,” he said. On one specific job, Imperial generated $100,000 by renting a 300-ton hydraulic crane and an additional $12,000 in rental revenue for the damper.
Pile Driving Solutions also will be distributing electric and hydraulic vibratory hammers. The hammers will be available in multiple varieties and suitable for use with hydraulic and crawler cranes.
“Our focus is to create an entire market for crane rental companies who are renting out the crane with the vibratory hammer, and they are able to protect their cranes with the damper,” Mooncotch said.
